Gibbon Nation. We are looking forward to seeing students and staff back at school tomorrow, Friday, September 19th. The entire education FAMILY of Gibbon Public Schools has the safety of all students, parents, and staff in mind each and every day. We believe the situation is contained and know that law enforcement continues their investigation with of focus on bringing clarity. However, we want parents and guardians to feel comfortable sending their children to school. As a sign of support for those concerns, we will have a police presence on campus the entire day.
We appreciate and thank everyone for their patience and support. We look forward seeing everyone tomorrow morning.

Gibbon Nation. The school district received a threat that required immediate attention and investigation. Out of an abundance of caution, the school district went into a Secure at approximately 12:15 p.m. A "Secure" means that all external doors are locked, no one leaves or enters the building, and instruction continues as normal as possible. Students and staff remained safely inside the building.
Law Enforcement was notified immediately. The Buffalo County Sheriff Department and the Kearney Police department have been on campus offering advice and support throughout this entire event.
At approximately 3:00 p.m. , the school district was notified that the person of interest was in custody and law enforcement determined there were no other threats to students, staff, and parents. At approximately 3:05, students and staff were informed the "Secure" was lifted and school would dismiss at the normal times.
We want to thank the Buffalo County Sheriff Department, the Kearney Police Department for the expertise and support. We want to thank parents, the community, parents, students and staff for the marvelous way they responded to this particular situation.
We will offer more updates as we learn more about today's events.
